What's the difference between a contact, a lead and a client?
If you’re new to GoggleCRM, you might be wondering what the difference is between a contact, a lead, and a client.
It’s actually pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Think of these labels as a way to keep track of where each person stands in your relationship with them.
Contacts: Your Full List of People
Every person you’ve ever added to GoggleCRM is a contact. This is your big master list—anyone from your email imports, event sign-ups, or people you’ve met along the way. You can think of it as your starting point because everyone begins as a contact.
Leads: The Ones You’re Currently Working With
Leads are those contacts you’ve decided to focus on turning into customers. They’re not just sitting in your database; you’re actually putting in some effort—sending messages, arranging calls, or scheduling demos. By marking someone as a lead, you know they’re “in progress” and need your attention right now.
Clients: Your Customers
Once a lead decides to work with you or buy something from you, they become a client. At this point, you’ve already done business with them. Now, you might want to keep nurturing these relationships—maybe by sending them helpful updates or checking in to see if they need anything else. Clients are the people who’ve already trusted you with their business, so it’s important to treat them well and maintain that connection.
How to Change Someone’s Status
If you want to update a person’s status, just open their profile in GoggleCRM and head to the “Details” section. From there, you can switch them from contact to lead, lead to client, or back to just being a contact. It’s a quick and easy way to keep everything organized.
In a Nutshell:
Contacts: Everybody in your database
Leads: Contacts you’re currently working to convert into clients
Clients: People who’ve already done business with you
By understanding these simple labels, you’ll know exactly where each person stands and what kind of attention they need from you. It’s all about staying organized and making sure no one slips through the cracks.
